A year in review | 2016

2016 was a great year for May Floral! I’m pleased as punch with our business progress from the past year. Heartfelt thanks to our clients, trusted friends and colleagues. It’s my privilege to get to work with you.

In January, our work was featured in Style Me Pretty alongside some of my favorite vendors. It was an absolute DREAM TEAM.

Later that month, a stunning and unique editorial shoot with Kristin La Voie was published in Hey Wedding Lady!

In early February, we participated in Indie Wed, a one-of-a-kind wedding show featuring some of the most talented and independently-owned wedding pros in the area. We'll be there again on this year on January 28. For more info about the event, check out their website.

Karina Metts from Metts Photography had a birthday party for her daughter, Elena, and she had me teach the children how to arrange flowers. Teaching flowers is so fun for me, and I was filled with delight to be a part of Elena's birthday celebration.

We kicked off the 2016 wedding season this month with beautiful weddings for Emily and Bryan and Jill and Scott.

A styled shoot we participated in was published on Glamour and Grace. I collaborated with some wonderfully talented peeps on this shoot. Be sure to check out the gorgeous details and photos.

In March, the Martha Stewart wedding party came to Chicago. I helped my friends Feast and Imbibe enhance their booth with some florals. They serve the yummiest food. Simply the best caterer in the Chicago area.

The talented and sweet duo of K+B Photography held a happy hour/networking/head shots event along with Fig Catering, and I helped with decorating the space with flowers.

We had two great weddings - Sam and Kyle’s at Firehouse Chicago and Dawn and Rudy’s at Ovation.

March also brought another stunning collaboration with Kristin La Voie with a fun boudoir shoot, which was later published in Magnolia Rouge.

In April, I had the honor of participating in Form, an annual event that raises funds for Snow City Arts. This year's event will take place on April 11 at Bridgeport Art Center. Check it out if you like art, flowers and supporting a great cause.

I got to be a part of Jaynee and Allan’s wedding (as a florist and guest!) this month. This one was special because our families are close friends.

A truly stunning editorial shoot inspired 2016 Pantone Colors of the Year was published in Utterly Engaged

May means the anniversary of our launch date (and my birthday month too), so it’s my favorite month! In May, we had four wonderful weddings: Patricia and Alex, Chanelle and Alex, Haley and Jonathan, and Denae and Brandon. May means abundant peonies, and of course, we used them in all four wedding!

My husband and I took a weekend-long trip to Austin for some adventure and relaxation. What a special city! Highly recommend it.

The months from June to September means busy wedding season. During these months, we worked on 31 weddings and didn't have much time for anything else besides working! It was busy, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. I know I'm lucky to have a job in which I get to create beauty and be part of a significant day in people's lives.

October brought me the pleasure of being a part of weddings for four great couples: Megan and John, Lucy and Paul, Erin and Danny and Kira and Joe.

I was able to take two wonderful trips too. One was to New York City for a workshop with Shane Connelly, the florist for the British royal family! His team did the flowers for Prince William and Duchess Kate's wedding. I'll be sure to share what I learn from him in a future post. It was an honor to learn from him. The other trip was to beautiful Zion National Park for a weekend of hiking and relaxation.

November marked the end of wedding season for me with three beautiful weddings for Joanne and David and Rachel and Brett and Jaclyn and Brian.

With help from my friend Abby with Heirloom Event Co., one of my old ideas turned into a reality. We made bouquets and boutonnières and then went to city hall and gave them out to brides and grooms getting married. It was so fun and the couples who received the flowers were so appreciative.

Trendy Bride Blog published one of my favorite weddings from 2015 - Hope and Jason's at Studio Manarchy.

December is holiday season which means lots of flower deliveries for parties and as gifts. I also made and deliver gift boxes on behalf of my friend Karina.

What a year! Thank you for reading! Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2017 for all!
